A game as old as Warhammer 40,000 has an immense amount of lore behind it. In many cases, this backlog of lore is fixed and immutable, providing the basis upon which new lore can be written. Even new lore is frequently written at the sole discretion of the creators of the game. However, Warhammer 40,000 makes a break from that tradition with its annual Global Campaign.
What is the Global Campaign?
The Warhammer 40,000 Global Campaign is a method for players of Warhammer 40,000 to be able to influence the ongoing narrative of the game. This year the global campaign is entitled Fate of Konor, and decides the outcome of the ongoing war for the worlds of Konor system, near the Ultramarine home world of Ultramar. The campaign will be fought over six weeks, each week will have a specific mission and planet tied to it, fighting and winning battles at your local game store using these missions will earn points for your faction. The faction with the most points at the end of each week will control planet that was being fought over. The factions that control the planets at the end of the six-week period will affect the future written narrative of the Konor system!
What factions can I earn points for?
The two major factions fighting for the Konor system are the Imperium of Man and the forces of Abbadon’s 13th Black Crusade. Thus, players with Imperial armies can earn points for the forces of the Imperium, players with Chaos armies can earn points for the forces of the Black Crusade. However, even players using Xenos armies can earn points, when a player playing a Xenos army wins a battle, they can take away points from the Imperial or Chaos forces, which can cause major changes to which faction controls the planet at the end of each week!
Is winning battles the only way I can earn points?
No! For players who are less interested in playing games, or simply want to earn a few extra points for their team, you can earn points by purchasing and painting a new set of miniatures! Each completed box will earn your faction points in the same way that winning a battle would!
When and where does the campaign start?
The campaign begins on the 1st of August, which allows players to play a few practice games and become familiar with the new 8th Edition rules before launching into playing battles for the fate of the Konor system! Games for the global campaign can be played at any Games Workshop retail location, as well as many other independent game stores that are participating in the campaign, including the Hairy Tarantula!
